Jonathan Gray
Trainee Counsellor at Wellness HQ

Jonathan is a final-year student at the Australian College of Applied Professions (ACAP), completing a degree in Psychological Science and Counselling. As a mature-aged student, he brings a broad range of life and work experiences to the counselling sphere. With a deep appreciation for the uniqueness of each individual’s journey, Jonathan is passionate about working collaboratively with clients to help them achieve meaningful outcomes in a safe, respectful and empathetic environment.
He has a particular interest in supporting clients to build resilience, recognise opportunities for post-traumatic growth, and move from surviving to thriving in an ever-changing and often challenging world. Jonathan believes that, like happiness, learning is a lifelong journey.
ACAP’s integrated approach to theoretical, experiential, and skills-based learning has supported Jonathan in developing a flexible, client-centred counselling style. He draws on a range of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy, allowing him to tailor his approach to each client’s needs. These approaches resonate with Jonathan’s core belief that meaningful change occurs when clients feel heard, understood and empowered to explore their own lives and values.
As part of his studies, Jonathan has gained valuable experience as a volunteer counsellor with Griefline, offering support to individuals navigating significant loss and life challenges. This work continues to deepen his empathy and strengthen his capacity to be fully present with those in distress.
Outside of his academic and clinical development, Jonathan is a dedicated student of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He enjoys mentoring new students, competing, and teaching classes throughout the year. To support his own wellbeing, he incorporates mindfulness, ice baths, sauna and exercise on a daily basis.
Jonathan also enjoys spending quality time with his partner, adult children and friends. A lover of stand-up comedy, travel, music, the beach—and his pet turtle—he brings curiosity, balance and authenticity to all areas of his life and work.
